My Journey
Over the years I've had many experiences that have pushed me forwards on my path towards becoming an educator. Here are some of them!
2015 - 2018
Education and Outreach Internship
Colorado Shakespeare Festival
During my sophomore year in high school I started an internship in the education office at the Colorado Shakespeare Festival (CSF) for school credit. I got to spend several hours every week cutting scripts for student performances, organizing and creating inventories for props and costumes, updating student databases, and even writing a short, rhyming children's book version of Cymbeline. In 2016 I also created the CSF Education Instagram account and ran it and the CSF Education Facebook page until 2018.

For my senior project in high school I created a YouTube channel called Queer Shakespeare about gender and sexual orientation in Shakespeare's works. I spent over 120 hours over the course of the school year doing research, writing scripts, filming and editing videos, and getting feedback from community experts. I ended up publishing six videos on my channel, which you can watch here.

Front of House, Gift Cart Staff
Colorado Shakespeare Festival
The summer before starting college I worked front of house for CSF, which involved taking tickets, welcoming patrons, and assisting the house manager with maintaining safety and order in the theater during the show. I returned the following two summers to work the gift cart (essentially a portable gift shop) at the shows. I learned a lot about inventory management, customer service, and working as a team.

Assistant directing - 1907
Once I started college I could no longer take every class and camp CSF offered, so I began assistant teaching them instead. Over the years I helped with classes and camps for kids aged six to eighteen. I assisted with classroom management, managing costumes and props, directing student productions, and leading theatre warmups and games. I was set to have been assistant teaching a summer camp in 2020 as well, but COVID-19 threw a wrench in that plan.

Theatre Major
University of Colorado Boulder
In August 2017 I started at the University of Colorado Boulder as a theatre major. I loved the theatre department and the people I met there. I had a major role, Knowledge, in Everyman by Carol Ann Duffy in 2018. I also completed courses in stage technology, costuming, acting, and theatre history, among other topics.

At the end of my sophomore year I made the decision to change my major from theatre to anthropology. Although I enjoyed theatre and will forever be grateful for the people I got to know and all that I learned in my time in the program, I decided that I missed science too much. I also decided that I would rather go into education than become a performer or a researcher, so I added an education minor as well.

Education Assistant
University of Colorado Boulder Museum of Natural History
At the end of 2019 I began thinking that museum work would be the perfect way to blend my love of science, performance, education, history, and creativity. I started working at the natural history museum on campus in the middle of January 2020. I created activities for family programs, ran the programs, maintained collections and inventories, and led private birthday parties for two months before COVID-19 shut everything down. At that point I moved to working from home, primarily making educational videos for families stuck at home. You can read more about these videos on the Projects page.

WOW! Children's Museum
In 2022 after a break from working to focus on school and try to wait out COVID-19, I was missing working with kids and started working at the WOW! Children's Museum. Although my main responsibilities are working the front desk, maintaining cleanliness and organization on the museum floor, and making sales of tickets, memberships, and merchandise, I've also had a lot of opportunities to help with educational programming and do activities with kids as well! Most recently I helped the education team plan and facilitate our summer enrichment programs for kids aged 6-8, led one-off programs for pre-schoolers on the science of ice cream and making suncatchers with items found in our garden, and read stories and do art projects with guests whenever the opportunity arrises.
