STEAM to the Max

Instructor

STEAM to the Max is my first program all of my own and my pride and joy! Each week I design, prepare, and run a different activity for elementary aged children all themed around nature, science, and art. In its first 6 months of existence, Steam to the Max reached over 300 children.

WOW! Next

Co-Leader

Although WOW!'s exhibits are primarily focused on early childhood, it's important to our mission to reach all children and build space to support community in Lafayette. As a part of this goal, in 2025 WOW! began offering events for older children aged 12-17, specifically tabletop game nights. As co-host, I work with two other members of the education team to plan, run, and promote these events. We run Dungeons and Dragons for both beginners and advanced players as well as an assortment of board games.

upcoming WOW! Next events here.

Discovery Garden and Garden Programs

Gardener & Instructor

After several years of planning and maintaining the raised vegetable beds in the Discovery Garden, one of WOW! Children's Museum's beloved staff members left to spend her retirement in her home state. Upon her leaving, I took over the vegetable gardens and also took it upon myself to revamp WOW!'s summer garden programming. Not only did I plan the gardens, but also designed and ran programs that allowed the kids to help dig the gardens, plant seeds, and harvest produce all while talking about plant biology, healthy ecosystems, and healthy food choices.

You can find more on my planning for the gardens here.

Museum From Home

Video producer

After COVID-19 required the Museum of Natural History to close, I created several educational videos for our patrons to watch from home. The videos include information about a topic, activities that can be done with household objects, and sometimes children's book recommendations. I wrote, filmed, edited, and created diagrams for these videos. You can find my first video here!

Public Achievement

Coach

Public Achievement is a partnership between the University of Colorado Boulder's School of Education and Boulder Valley School District's AVID program. CU students go into local schools once a week and lead groups of middle or high school students to create and implement social justice projects. I worked with a group of 7th graders at Angevine Middle School in Lafayette, Colorado, during the 2019-2020 school year, helping them to turn Angevine into a Green Star school and create videos and posters to educate their classmates. During the 2020-2021 school year I worked with 7th graders at Casey Middle School in Boulder, Colorado, in an abbreviated, virtual version of the program. We discussed waste management and created an educational social media post that students could share. You can find more information about the Green Star program here, and more about Public Achievement here.
